On safari in Botswana, you might be able to spot lions, rhinos, elephants, leopards, and zebras, but in this game, you will spot them for sure! But can you guess which ones will be worth the most points at the end of this safari? Play the right cards at the right time, collect the best animals, score the most points, and win the game. This kid-friendly title, designed by Reiner Knizia, has easy and quick rules. It is fast to learn yet challenging to play—for all family members, young and old.

The beautifully painted animal miniatures of this game will immediately appeal to younger family members. Botswana encourages advanced planning and requires flexible thinking as the ever-changing stacks of exposed cards reveal different values affecting your ever-growing animal collection. Get the high cards of your animal collection out on top of the stacks before any one animal species stack reaches 6 cards and triggers the game end. Have you maximized the value of your safari animals enough to win?

Botswana is #11 in our Gryphon Bookshelf Series.

5 of 5 What a great new edition of this classic filler! June 19, 2012

Botswana is a rethemed version of the simple and elegant Knizia classic Loco, with the addition of some wonderful animal miniatures.

There are six cards (numbered 0-5) in five suits corresponding to the five animal miniatures of each: rhinos, leopards, lions, zebras, elephants. Cards are dealt out to all players, and in turns they play a card and take an animal. When one animal has all six of its cards played, the last card played for each animal represents how many points those animals are worth.

This is a first rate family game that can serve double-duty as a quick, light, social filler.  In terms of fun, ease of learning, replayability, you would be hard pressed to go wrong with getting it. It's accessible, plays quickly, and has gorgeous components. Featuring a very elegant design, despite some luck of the draw it also enables you to make clever and tense choices. Attractive and high quality components round out an excellent all-round package that's excellent value.
